Summary Bull trout (Salvelinus
confluentus), and Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma), are generally present in all
parts
of Washington State
except the area east of the Columbia River and north of the Snake River in
eastern
Washington (Columbia
Basin) and the extreme southwest portion of the state. Distribution losses from
historical levels have
been confined mainly to eastern Washington.
In addition to a reduced distribution
from historical levels,
several populations in both eastern and western Washington have become
fragmented because lower
river reaches are no longer utilized. A
total of three populations have become
extinct.
