Recreation
Publication Name An Updating Analysis of
Differential Sport Fish Values for Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead
ID # 440
Authors Mayer, Philip A., Brown,
William G., and Ching-Kai Hsiao
Publication Date May 1983
Produced By National Marine Fisheries
Service
Summary In the spring of 1982,
NMFS published an updated technical manual reporting reference economic values
for salmon and steelhead
of the Columbia River. This report made
exclusive use of already existing data.
One of the most difficult
areas for analysts was specification of differential values for sport fisheries
based
on such particular
characteristics as catch success, location, species taken, etc. While offering an
improved treatment offer
the earlier (1975) manual, analysts were unable to find any comprehensive
existing
data set from which to address those issues,
and their conclusions with respect to differential sport fish
values were heavily
qualified.
