Nordby Headcut Project
The Nordby Project is located on the south side of
Highway 17, just east of its intersection with Mary Jane Hill Road. The
section of East Foster Creek running thru this meadow-like section of former
pasture land has created a “head-cut” in the stream bed, eroding the stream
bank, and lowering the level of the water table. The project aims to
reverse the erosion action of the creek by placing several rock erosion control
structures across the stream channel, re-contouring the stream banks, and
planting native plants to prevent further erosion. The ultimate objective
is to return this creek section to a proper functioning condition, return the
level of the water table to its natural state, and increase the water storage
capacity of the pasture area to help contain future runoff
events.
Grass seeding on this project was completed at the time of construction.
Shrub planting will likely be done in the Spring of 2004. Vegetative progress will
continue to be monitored and re-seeded as necessary for the next few years until
established.
