Physical Ecosystem
Douglas County, a mix of agricultural and sagebrush-steppe ecosystems, has 1,172,280 acres, 88% of which is privately owned. The county receives only 9-11" of annual rainfall. The Columbia River winds its way 156 miles along the county's perimeter and drains two major watersheds, Foster Creek (WRIA 50) and Moses Coulee (WRIA 44). Jameson Lake, as well as hundreds of glacial ponds, also provide critical habitat for an assortment of creatures both plentiful and endangered.

Agricultural Community
Douglas County's agricultural community had its beginnings in the 1870s and has since grown into a thriving economy consisting of approximately 500 third and fourth generation family farms.
